Look for opportunities at Bayer

Bayer internship in 2017

Internship: Bayer LifeScience iHUB Intern
Location: Silicon Valley - Mountain View, California

The Bayer LifeScience iHUB is an innovation group located in Mountain View, CA and spearheads the use of digital technology at Bayer by providing the three business units (Pharma, Consumer health, and Crop Science) an avenue to fast-track new ideas and technology towards prototypes. We work on projects involving the evaluation and use of sensors and machine learning algorithms to solve unmet needs in the life-science industry.

Help us prototype new digital technology for topics such as disease management, clinical trial data collection, and patient/consumer engagement! Depending on your skillset you might work on data mining problems to discover the information hidden in vast amounts of data related to diseases, drugs, patients and clinical trials, as well as use the information to improve clinical trials, business processes and Bayer products. Opportunity exists to also prototype new mobile applications for patient engagement.

Questions to Heiko from Bayer

Bayer is adventurous and is again looking for their next Blind Applying Champion! We have asked Heiko a couple questions for you to get inspired.

What do you believe is an important aspect of an engaging company culture?
One of the most important aspects of an engaging company culture for me is its confidence in the employees. Feeling a company culture means that you are supported and encouraged every single day. Going to work and knowing that you can rely on your colleagues and managers means a lot to me. As I said last year: Not only with the corporate values we have in the company – we call them our “LIFE” values – but also because the way we work together and achieve our objectives in our team is based on a balance between hard work and fun. Most of the time, even the hard work is fun!

Your advice for a student who wants to kick-start his or her career?
In my opinion, you should always be open-minded, try new things, discover the world and be curious about everything. You will gain the best experiences while working in different jobs and even different countries. Studying abroad will be a great opportunity to get to know different cultures. Those experiences will help you to find the most suitable job for you that makes you satisfied and happy. Or to put it more “officially”: If you have the passion to innovate – Bayer will give you the power to change.

If you have the passion to innovate – Bayer will give you the power to change.

Favorite working spot in the office?
At the moment, my favorite working spot in the office is the “Eero Aarnio Egg Chair”, which is part of our “Virtual Reality Career Experience”  even if you’re not watching #BAYER360-videos, it is quite relaxing and inspiring, and it stimulates creativity to sit and work there.

Meet Chloé, the Blind Applying champion of Bayer

Last summer, after finishing her studies at ISC Business School in Paris, Chloé joined Bayer in the US to work in Digital Marketing in one of the company's digitalization projects.

Meet Heiko from Bayer!

We asked the Blind Applying employers a few questions about their daily life at the office and to send us a picture of their favourite item in the workplace.

Heiko, HR Marketer at Bayer answers our questions and proudly says #WeAreTheEmployers

What does the picture you took mean for you?
This picture shows my daily work in talent attraction and employer marketing. Working in this department - and the picture demonstrates this – means engaging in analog and digital communication with candidates. Maybe it also has something to do with the fact that I’m a digital immigrant. But with this combination - a notebook, a biro and an iPhone - you’re always “on”. :)

What are you working with at Bayer?
My main tasks are to attract new talent and to inspire candidates to apply to Bayer – and to show how diverse the opportunities are in a Life-Science company. My daily work is made up of around 80% online marketing (social media, internet and intranet) and about 20% face-to-face-communication with candidates at live events. Basically it’s all about employer branding! And the other main task – and that’s something I have in common with every colleague at Bayer - is to learn, learn, learn. After all, I only joined Bayer on October 1st. ;)

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?
To tell you the truth, I’d like to wake up and be fluent in French. It would really help communication with interesting candidates and in my private life too because I’m very interested in culture, books and traveling. But at the moment, with my poor level of French, the francophone world is more like a closed box for me. I’m sure Bayer can even help me with this. Later.

What role does fun play in your workplace?
It’s incredibly important! I feel very lucky and really privileged to work for Bayer and the employer-marketing team. Not only with the corporate values we have in the company – we call them our “LIFE” values – but also because the way we work together and achieve our objectives in our team is based on a balance between hard work and fun. And to be honest – most of the time, even the hard work is fun!
